Our annual masterclasses are bedding in nicely in the lead-up to exam time. Alumni RuthKarotkin, who teaches the Year 12 masterclasses for ATAR Human Biology, told us her student feedback so far has been good. “The structure of my 60-minute sessions involve some direct teaching of the revision content followed by time to work through short answer questions I’ve taken from past exam papers. Our Year 12s not only revise the content they’ve already learnt but apply their understandings to real-life examples and consider strategies for answering the types of questions they will be asked in their mid-year and final ATAR exams.”

BradHershowitz, who takes the ATAR Chemistry masterclass, is equally positive with his students’ progress. “It’s been excellent,” he noted. “Units 3 and 4 of ATAR Chemistry involve a mixture (pardon the pun) of both theory and practical labs. The masterclass sessions allow students to finetune and master the concepts learned in class before applying them to WACE standard problems. We are currently covering Acids and Bases, which involves learning somereally awesomehands-on skills — in particular, the famous titrations! Students have shown a keen interest in engaging at a level beyond the coursework, resulting in some very interesting and thought-provoking discussions, which further enriches their understanding of the topics and demonstrates the extra-curricular value of these masterclass sessions.”
